When we look back on this wild year, one thing we'll remark on (I hope) is the eleventh-hour resurrection of the Simple Truth -- the idea that our shared version of "reality" has to be based on a set of objective facts, and not just whatever variation of the "story" we may prefer. I mean, I would like to believe that the polar ice caps are doing just fine, but people who know better say otherwise -- and if I want to remain relevant to that discussion, I'm just going to have to deal with it. Likewise "systemic racism" (I don't know, what do you think, Trayvon?), the Virus ("...gonna disappear -- like magic"), Mexico will pay for the Wall, the President's a Billionaire, also religious, and "immune" -- and on and on...
I threw this song together a couple years back -- in the Before Times, when we still had live shows -- in response to the 1st-year's wave of astonishing horseshit. And of course it's been nothing but more of the same ever since. I felt the need to update it for Right Now b-cuz: that's the Finish Line up ahead, and I want to be on the record, so to speak, before the Curtain comes down on this whole sad chapter.
This is my way of saying, "Enough." You might enjoy grooving along with this while watching the Candidates doing their Network TV parallel-play non-debate tomorrow night. Thanks for reading, thanks for listening. And hold on tight for the wild ride to the Other Side -- see you there. -- C. D.
