about
I wrote this one a few years back, and every winter -- especially in this time between the holidays when we're all just kind of waiting around for "real life" to get going again -- it comes to mind that I should hurry up and turn it loose before summer comes around again.
This year, being in so many ways unlike any other, I decided it was time to take a shot at it. Recorded yesterday, here in my little "Studio B" (which may or may not stand for "bedroom"), and released today, in the last hours of daylight of this last day of a long hard year that those of us lucky enough to remain right-side-up are not likely soon to forget.
With my best wishes to one and all for continued good health, good heart in hard times, and good times abounding in the New Year to come...
lyrics
LATE FOR THE PARTY
(C. M. Duncan)
It’s wintertime now and I’m moving so slow
When everyone else seems to hurry
Why it hits me this way, well I really don’t know
If I’m late for the party, don’t worry
And there’s a four letter moon in a black and blue sky
You could read like a book, deep and starry,
But it feels like I’m falling straight up when I try
If I’m late for the party, I’m sorry
And I found an old phone among other lost things
by the road and I’m taking it with me
‘Cause I just want to be there if ever it rings
If I’m late for the party, forgive me
(instru.)
And it’s Joy to the World it’ll need it, of course
Why there’s never enough is a mystery
All I have is my love and it’s already yours
If I’m late for the party, don’t miss me
It’s wintertime now, and it’s so cold and dry
I feel angels beginning to crowd me
They’re just trying to stay warm while the planets roll by
If I’m late, start the party without me
If I’m late, start the party without me
